CARNAVAL

Jeez,... It's been a month since my last post.
I guess Hyves got a bit more of my attention than this weblog.
Time to catch up a little bit.

January was just another ordinary January like any other year.
After the Holidays it was right back to work,... some major changes in the education system are awaiting us. Looking forward to that... (well.... maybe not! We've had too many changes over the last few years)
Beginning of January was our band's annual Ramspoed Festival, at which 15 bands mainly from our hometown and from Brabant presented their 2008 repertoires, and some of the bands put some creative acts on stage portraying the festival's theme: "Ramspoed the Musical".
Personally the "Bokito the musical" by Blazerus was my favourite!
Our band "De Rammen" presented our new outfits. almsot every season we come out with a new creation. This year we chose for "colours". Every member chose a colour and made an outfit or had one made completely in this colour, some using different shades.
Looked spectacular. During the last few weeks most members added stuff to their costumes.
I made a mask with Rams' horns, taken after our band's mascot which hangs over the bar in our band home/ rehearsal site.
Then we had a gig every weekend... the first folloowing our band's annual "pub crawl", which was another success. The musical quality of the performance wasn't as we would normally perform. Alcohol doesn't always have a positive effect.
Last night we played in our hometown for the last time this Carnaval season, for as of tomorrow night we willl be in Brabant for FIVE (!!) days, giving some 25+ performances. Can't wait!
The only hitch for me is that the school holidays don't match with the Carnaval weekend in our area. We'll have the last week of February off, whereas the predominatly Catholic Brabant has this coming week off. I'm looking at some very early (train) returns from Goirle to Dordrecht, so I can be in time for school. Those nigth will be extremely short! Oh well.
After class I will take a train back both on Monday and Tuesday to catch up with the band, so I won't miss all that much of the gigs.
Enjoy,
HK
