DRUMCORPS FOOD ?
Glassmen are in town!
The corps from Toledo (Ohio) is on a two week trip through Europe and have now settled in our hometown of Dordrecht, spending two days of rehearsals and a performance with 11 other corps and band in the local football (soccer) stadium on Friday night. Should be fun!
Glassmen just came from a five day stay in France, where they were hosted by the La Vaillante Showband on the occasion of their 100th anniversary. Where the French are generally well known for their cuisine, the food that was served to Glassmen and other corps and bands at the festival did not meet the standards they were all accustomed to.
Coming to The Netherlands things should have become a bit better. Breakfast and lunch today were OK and well-received. For dinner a BBQ was scheduled. Now feeding 170 people from a charcoal barbecue is quite a challenge. Especially getting all the meat (some of which was not pre-cooked) out in time warm and done.
And that's where things kinda went wrong.
Too much of the meat got burnt.
That was really too bad, for the corps hadn't been fed enough meat over the last couple of days.
Most of it was eaten anyway, as the dishes were almost empty when rehearsal started again.
A lesson to be learnt:... More people to cook, plan, help out and keep an eye on the fire/coals....
