FUTURE OF DRUMCORPS ?

Well,.. you never know...

This might just be what Hopkins is aiming at with all his proposals at the annual DCI meetings.

TOYOTA created a bunch of musical robots: The Toyota Robot Quartet.
The members are Harry, Dave, Ritchie and Chuck.

They just performed a short concert of three songs in public in Japan and the instruments these cats can play include the trumpet, tuba, percussion and bass drum.

See them PERFORM in a short clip.

Harry’s the band leader and is one of two bipedal robots while Dave and Ritchie like to burn some rubber on their wheels. They’ve been knocking around for awhile now but recently regrouped, now that they’re all clean and no longer sniffing lubricants and downing endless shots of Castrol GTX.

And to make things complete... there's ASIMO,... a product of HONDA.
Asimo is a an advanced humanoid robot conductor, which recently conducted the piece "Impossible Dream" with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and famous cello virtuosis Yo-Yo Ma.

Unfortunately its conducting skills are fully programmed (copied from a video of a real conductor), but still... who knows where this might be going!

The end of a drum major era???

Check this little film clip .

ASIMO stands for "Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility" by the way.

Enjoy,

GREAT BLOW JOB

I never thought I would post about this…

Just kidding,.. No... it’s not what you might think….

Most of you know I play the trumpet.
Well,.. last year I guided some very good friends from the States around Brussels for a day and ran into a piece of art in the shape of,.. well,… a horn.
Took some great pictures of my friend Jim, pretending to play it then.

Now I was back in Brussels last week with my parents and brother and right after visiting the Midi station market on Sunday morning we passed the same huge horn again.
Couldn’t resist climbing the stairs and “playing it”.
here's the result of the shot my brother took:

Enjoy,
